Since early childhood Simon has always loved drawing and painting having been encouaged by his parents who were both artists.  As a pupil at Wells Cathedral School in Somerset he became a keen sculptor working primarily in clay.  Following this he spent four years studying painting and printmaking for a degree in Fine Art at Maidstone College of Art.  From there he went on to Goldsmith's College where he trained as an art teacher and worked on figurative ceramic bowls and sculptures.  Since then he has worked loosely in pencil, charcoal, ink and paint to help produce his finished sculptures in clay.  Between the years of 1988 and 1995, Simon lived in the South of France exhibiting his work and developing a knowledge of the region's unique cave paintings.  Since 2001 he has been largely concerned with the human figure as a point of departure to produce harmonious forms that suggest an intimate connection to the landscape.  Simon has travelled extensively and now resides in a coombe in Exmoor National Park.
