Nicola Godden studied at Farnham Art College. Her passion for art led her to specialise in portrait and figurative art sculpture. She loves the accuracy and attention to detail involved in portrait sculpture but also enjoys the freedom derived from her abstracted pieces. In all of her work Nicola strives to show what is below, what she refers to as the 'shallow shell like person of the human form'. She rarely plans her work and never works from drawings, maintaining that this would kill the spontaneity of the piece. Many of her sculptures are inspired by a piece of bone or flint which reminds her of some part of the human form. This is followed by making a wire framework to which clay or plaster is soon added so as to 'capture the moment'. Most of Nicola's work is cast in bronze. light reflects well of its surface and is irresistible to touch. The bronze casting process is complex and long but Nicola tries to be involved in each stage of the production of this timeless and fascinating metal. |
