Kim was born in St Albans in 1936. She is a graduate of St Albans College of Art but considers herself to be largely self taught. She approaches her painting with modesty and ease, producing exquisite paintings of exotic and endangered species of birds and mammals of the tropics. To this end she has travelled extensively down the Amazon river in Peru and the Cloud Rainforest of Costa Rica. Kim has exhibited her work internationally, beginning with a solo exhibition on London's Bond Street. After this fine start she went onto New York, San Francisco, Washington, Los Angeles, Nairobi and Johannesburg. In 1979 and 1980, Kim took the Gold Medal at the Wildlife Artist International Exhibition in Phoenix, Arizona. She has also acted as the English ambassador for the World Wilderness Congress in Johannesburg. In 1999, the Wildlife Art Journal said this of her: 'Kim Brooks is considered to be one of the true pioneers who helped wildlife art to become recognised as fine art'.
