| The potential of Geoffrey Dashwood was recognised at a young age whilst he was at school in Hampshire by then art master, Edward Phelps. Phelps found him to be exceptionally gifted and persuaded him to go to Art School. Before the age of twenty he had been enlisted by the Forestry and Countryside Commissions to illustrate guides, design posters and paint portraits of birds. This was perhaps the springboard for his devotion to bird sculpture. His talent for this genre of sculpture was described by Phelps as 'sui generis'. He is now a sculptor of international repute within a London gallery but his devotion to his native Hampshire has never waned. |
